Bagels are an integral part of my diet and identity and I truly feel that no bagel is complete without lox and cream cheese. This is a fact that I finally understood when Apple released the bagel emoji.
When Apple released its bagel emoji for its iMessage app in early October, protests and petitions began popping up all over Philadelphia and New York, some of which garnered 1,200+ signatures! This unforeseen pushback toward the plain bagel led Apple to add cream cheese.
The update provoked a response on Twitter. One user wrote “Love a good schmear!” but it is not possible to please everyone. After the bagel got its upgrade, people called for the addition of lox. I guess you can’t please everyone when bagels are involved.
