New year, new media. As we wait for the fate of the world, new movies and books are being released and TV shows renewed. Here is a list of some Jewish related media to look out for:
Movies:
“Wonder Woman 1984” released at the end of 2020. Jewish Actor, Gal Gadot, makes a reappearance as Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman. “Wonder Woman 1984” is a sequel to the first movie. This time, Diana is faced with the decision between saving the world and her own wants and desires.
TV Shows:
“Tehran,” released in 2020. Moshe Zonder wrote this Israeli thriller involving the Mossad. Tamar, a Mossad computer hacker, goes to Tehran on a mission. After the mission fails, Tamar is reacquainted with the city of Tehran and discovers her Iranian roots.
“Inventing Ana”: Jewish actor Julia Garner portrays the main character, Ana, in this show set to debut in 2021. The storyline follows Ana, an Instagram famous heiress, being investigated for fraud.
“Bridgerton” released at the end of 2020: Jewish author Julie Pottinger’s best selling novel Brigerton, written under the pseudonym Julia Quinn, has been adapted into a TV show. The Bridgertons are a wealthy family comprised of a widow and her 8 children living in the Regency era in London. This series has taken many viewers’ hearts.
“Alex Rider”: a TV show released at the end of 2020. Season 2 is slated to be released in 2021. Jewish author Anthony Horowitz’s Alex Rider thriller books have been adapted into a TV show. Alex Rider, a teen bereft of his parents and working as an agent of the English M16, was an exciting read. The TV adaptations are forecasted to be just as captivating.
The third season of “Fauda”was released in 2020. The show portrays both sides of the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Fauda means “chaos” in Arabic. The show follows a commander of an undercover Israeli unit in his hunt of a Hamas terrorist.
Season 6 of “Schitt’s Creek,” a show where the main family is characterized as Jewish, was released in 2020. The Roses, an extremely wealthy family, find themselves destitute and are forced to move to the tiny town named Schitt’s Creek, the one asset they were allowed to keep.
The “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” a comedy aiming to represent Jewish culture in the 50s and 60s, is renewed: season 4 is due to be released in December 2021. The show continues to follow housewife-turned-comedian Miriam Maisel.
Books:
There are many new books giving insight into the Holocaust released in 2020 and set to be released in 2021. Here are a few:
