Due to COVID-19, many hospitals, small businesses, and relief organizations are under great financial stress. Fortunately though, there are many individuals and groups doing their part to raise funds. For example, many actors and musical artists are hosting online events where proceeds will be donated. For this article, I scoured social media and the internet for those types of events, and I will list my findings below, in chronological order. While many are past events, they deserve recognition and some are even still accepting donations.
The 48-Hour Livestream (April 17th-19th)
A handful of musical artists banded together to create a live 48-hour online music event. Artists included Billie Eilish, Lizzo, and Nas. The event was created in order to benefit a nonprofit called Musicares, a fund which benefits artists in need. For more information, click here.
“Parks and Recreation” (April 30th)
A fan-favorite show, “Parks and Recreation” hosted an online reunion episode last month. They raised 3 million dollars for a nonprofit called Feeding America. According to actress Rashida Jones, they will continue to raise money for the next 20 days. For more information, click here.
Anjelah Johnson-Reyes and Iliza Shlesinger (April 30th – May 1st)
Two famed comedians, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes and Iliza Shlesinger, were raising money from April 30th until May 1st for Dine 11. If one were to donate $50 or more, Shlesinger or Johnson-Reyes would send over a personalized video! They collectively ended up raising over $24,000.
ASSSSCAT (May 1st)
Comedians and actors such as Bobby Moynihan, Amy Poehler, and Kauren Lapkus hosted a benefit show on YouTube in order to raise funds for frontline responders and more. Click here for more information.
Colorado Gives Back (May 8th)
This event was hosted by The Lumineers. It was a live-stream of Colorado’s finest DJs, radio stars, and local food, music and sports groups to benefit local businesses and organizations. For more information, click here and here.
Looped (May 11th)
Looped is partnering with celebrities to host online events, such as Q&As, that will benefit relevant charities. For more information, click here.
Rise Up New York! (May 11th)
This event was hosted by Tina Fey. It was a virtual benefit featuring performances by Sting, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi and Mariah Carey. It raised funds for New Yorkers. For more information, click here.
“Community” Table Read and Q&A (May 18th)
